Is Donald Trump a Fascist?

Dedicated to danielwalldammit, who knows so much that isn’t true.

I remember my surprise the first and only time my second son told me he’d gotten in trouble with the principal at school.  I asked what happened and he sheepishly confessed:  “I called Adam ‘gay.’”

“Do you even know what that means?” I asked my little third-grader, to which he sadly replied, “No, but it must be something really bad because the principal was mad and talked to us for a long time about it.”

Me:  “Well if you don’t know what it means, why did you call him that?”

My son:  “He wouldn’t stop bothering us and the other kids started calling him ‘gay’ so I did too.”

(FYI and in my son’s defense, Adam could be a very insistent pest.  He was the type of kid who, if he saw two kids building a sand castle, would have to run over and smash it.  He could try the patience of a saint).

That memory is what comes to mind whenever I hear those on the Left (like danielwalldammit) yelling “fascist” like a bunch of school children at Donald Trump.  Few of them actually understands what the word means, and those who do understand the meaning could not care less that it is makes no sense to apply it to Trump.  Truth is not the goal (it never is with the Left).  Justifying a self-serving “resistance” movement, and ultimately nullifying an election, is the goal.

From Merriam Webster’s Dictionary, here’s the actual definition of fascism:

1: a political philosophy, movement, or regime (such as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition

2 : a tendency toward or actual exercise of strong autocratic or dictatorial control

Let’s take those pieces one by one.

“Exalts nation above the individual.”

It’s easy to see why this part of the definition of fascism is so confusing to the child-like minds of the Left.  Patriotism, which Merriam Webster’s defines as “love for or devotion to one’s country,” is inarguably a necessary element to the prosperity and endurance of a nation, the U.S. being the living proof of this fact.  Normal people, the Left excepted of course, feel a certain sense of loyalty to their home countries.  Donald Trump understands this as well as anyone, and to his credit he has tried to restore the patriotism that was repressed by the Obama Administration in its efforts to “transform” this country to Obama’s liking.  But patriotism shouldn’t be confused with nationalism, which Merriam Webster’s defines as:

“loyalty and devotion to a nation; especially : a sense of national consciousness; exalting one nation above all others and placing primary emphasis on promotion of its culture and interests as opposed to those of other nations or supranational groups.  Intense nationalism was one of the causes of the war.”

Donald Trump asks Americans and their elected representatives to be put America first, which ought to be our natural inclination, but he made a point of encouraging other world leaders to put their own countries first as well, as they naturally should.  His quest is not to force American culture or interests on other nations beyond the normal drive that any nation has to assert its influence, and I defy the leftists to demonstrate otherwise with facts.

“Exalts race above the individual.”

There is zero evidence that Donald Trump is attempting to advance policies that elevate one race above any other, and anyone who says otherwise should come prepared with their facts.  I’m not going to waste my time or readers’ time trying to disprove a negative.  If you’ve got evidence, bring it.  If not, then have the decency to shut up.

“Stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader.”

This part is really a head-scratcher coming from the party of Barack ‘I’ve got a Pen and Phone’ Obama and Big-Government Bernie.  Trump has led the charge to free Americans from the Democrat shackles of overregulation and from the unconstitutional dictates of Barack Obama, who repeatedly admitted that he had no authority to impose DACA on this nation (while Democrats like danielwalldammit urged him to ignore the Constitution) before he decided that he would do it anyway.  It is Democrats, not Trump or Republicans, that favor anything resembling centralized autocratic government and dictatorship.

“Severe economic and social regimentation.”

Once again this is a head-scratcher.  Between Democrats and Republicans, which one can more likely be said to favor “severe economic regimentation?”  It is Democrats, not Trump or Republicans, that insist on giving the government the power to micromanage everything in the economy, from where you can purchase insurance and what your policy must include to what wages an employer must pay an employee who works at will.  It is Democrats, not Republicans, that have taken over the operation of our schools such that they micromanage every policy right down to the theme of the “holiday” cookies parents are allowed to bring.  It is Democrats, not Trump or Republicans, that try to criminalize speech and even thought.  So please, stop making me laugh.

“Forcible suppression of opposition.”

In what way has Donald Trump forcibly suppressed opposition?  I’ll be waiting for your list, danielwalldammit, but I won’t be holding my breath.

The careless use of words like “fascist” can be dangerous to a society.  The truth should matter to people of good conscience, and to people whose intentions are noble.  Therein lays the problem with danielwalldammit and his like-minded friends on the Left.

Why Democrats Want DACA NOW

Donald Trump and Republicans had already signaled a willingness to negotiate with Democrats on DACA when suddenly it became the Democrats’ hill to die on in the government funding battle.  Everything is being gambled for the sake of less than a million people who can’t even legally vote.  If you think Democrats care so much about the so-called “Dreamers,” then you are exceptionally naïve.  We’re talking about people who would sell their own mothers for a handful of votes, so clearly there’s a calculation being made here, and it doesn’t take a genius to figure it out. 

It could be that Democrats are putting all their chips on DACA and risking the blame for a shutdown because they believe so strongly in the rule that Republicans are always held responsible for shutdowns, but I don’t think that’s it.  This is a cunning group, and I think they’re taking the shutdown gamble because it would take DACA out of the equation when immigration negotiations resume.  Without that precious bargaining chip the Republican position will be significantly weakened.  On top of that Democrats will get bonus points for bringing Republicans to their knees on the funding fight.  They have little to lose and much to gain.

Trump and Republicans would be giant fools to fall for this (it appears Lindsey Graham already has but doesn’t that just prove my point?).  If Republicans cave on DACA or anything else in exchange for funding the government, they may as well throw their hands up in the air and wear dresses the rest of the year.

Sexual Harassment: New Outrage, Same Old Leftists

There is something surreal in the air lately.  After decades of watching liberals be shamelessly selective and partisan in their outrage over sexual harassment and selective in whose accusations they choose to believe or to ignore, it feels as though I have awakened from a long sleep only to find myself living in a new world.  Was it really just a few short months ago that Harvey Weinstein was the Democrat Party’s best buddy and fundraiser, a smug Al Franken got his jollies interrogating Republicans, Matt Lauer was the king of the morning shows, John Conyers was an “icon” and Bill and Hillary were still the beloved patriarch and matriarch of the Democrat Party?  My, how quickly things have changed!

We’re supposed to believe that there has been some great awakening, and that women everywhere are suddenly free to expose their dark tales of sexual harassment whereas before they somehow were not.  Sure, whatever you say.

Seriously, what’s changed?  Why this sudden zeal to go after people for behaviors which the Left heretofore has long chosen to selectively overlook?  The answer is so shamefully transparent that it would embarrass normal people.  But liberals aren’t normal people and it’s been well-established that they have no shame.  The Left’s elites, women in particular, now smell political opportunity in sexual harassment.  The wind is blowing a different direction.  Time to adjust one’s “principles.”  Time to signal to the sheep that it is okay – fashionable, even – to get on board, and the sheep love nothing better than to be a part of the latest fashion.   #MeToo has been quickly adopted as the official catch slogan.  Hurry up and order your t-shirts and bumper stickers, then rub your hands together and let the shaming and the bullying begin.

If I sound cynical it’s only because I know exactly who the Left really is.  I understand both the corrupt thinking at the leadership level and the complete absence of thinking at the sheeple level that’s driving this crusade.  There will be no principles applied other than the principle of winning at any cost.  There will be no consistency, no fairness, no rationality and no reasonable perspective, because these values are of no interest to the Left.   The ultimate objective of the elites is to unseat Donald Trump and to increase the excitement and political advantage of women, assuming they’ll be Democrats of course.  The objective of the sheeple is to “make a difference,” which is why they are always so easily persuaded to hop on board the latest cause.  The sense of power a liberal gets from forcing chance – any change – is irresistibly gratifying to their giant egos.  Think of a toddler knocking over a tower of blocks and how pleased he is to discover how powerful he can be by wreaking senseless destruction.  You get the idea.

Pardon me for asking but should the Left’s political ambitions and childish obsession with “making a difference” be driving behavioral standards and policies in this country?  As satisfying as it is to see people like Al Franken and Matt Lauer suddenly and unceremoniously deprived of the power they once held, the manner in which they were dethroned doesn’t bode well for the nation.  Any elected official who has lost the support of his constituency should resign or face the wrath of the electorate, but he shouldn’t be forced out of office solely on the demands of other elected officials as this will pave the way for one party to essentially unseat another party (Hmmm.  You don’t suppose that’s where this is going, do you?).  If Matt Lauer should be fired today for behaviors that were shrugged off yesterday, what should happen to those who were doing the shrugging?  Is it right that they aren’t held to account as well?  I support company policies that prohibit sexual harassment, but the behaviors that are disallowed should be clearly defined and the rules consistently and fairly enforced.  Quite frankly unless Lauer’s contract said he could be fired for any reason at any time he should sue NBC for wrongful termination because he apparently had good reason to believe that his behavior met with the approval of management until suddenly it didn’t.  All of this is par for the course with any leftist crusade because principles never matter.

Republicans, for their part, seem unsure about how to react.  Instinctively they know that any movement spearheaded by the Left will be fraught with dangers to the principles we once held dear as Americans; but since the movement has ensnared some big democrats, the temptation is there to just go with the flow.  My advice to the GOP is not to swallow the bait.  Franken, Lauer, Weinstein, Conyers and even the Clintons are being sacrificed because the Left has bigger fish to fry, and nothing in our American values will be deemed sacred enough to preserve in their quest.  Where there should be clarity, consistency, fairness, reason and proper perspective we will instead see ambiguity, inconsistency, double standards, irrationality and tunnel vision, so it’s up to us to ensure that the response to sexual harassment follows the right path.  Within the parameters of the law, companies must be free to determine what behaviors are inappropriate in their work places, with the courts – not public opinion – to determine whether the standards are being applied fairly.  Consumers will be, and always have been, free to weigh in with their wallets, but only with their own wallets – not everyone else’s.  Voters, not bureaucrats, should decide what standards of behavior are acceptable in their candidates, not just as it applies to the treatment of the opposite sex but in all aspects of behavior, including patriotism and behaviors that smell of corruption (Hi Hillary!).  The leftists, in driving sexual harassment to the forefront of the public square, are attempting to decide for all of us that this issue matters more than anything else.  I’m here to say that the people who gave Roman Polanski a standing ovation don’t get to make that decision for me.

Because she made news recently for calling on Melania and Ivanka Trump to speak out on sexual harassment I searched for photos of Meryl Streep with Bill and Hillary Clinton and Harvey Weinstein to accompany this post.  I found lots of photos with a smiling Streep kissing, hugging and otherwise cuddling up to Weinstein and the Clintons, but as is usually the case such damning photos are never free to be shared (Shhhhhh….it’s a secret!).

What Debra Messing Doesn’t Understand About Patriotism

There are two kinds of leftists in this world.  The first type are the elites, master manipulators on a calculated mission to usurp your power by whatever means possible.  These are your Obamas, Clintons, Soros’ and Alinskys.  The second type are the foolish lemmings who follow the lead of the master manipulators with mindless fervor and drooling devotion, seemingly oblivious to common sense and incapable of adult-level thinking.  Debra Messing is one of the latter. 

According to a  recent article in Fox News:

“Messing took to Instagram last Wednesday to show emotional support for her son after he asked for permission to protest the national anthem for the New York Rangers game at Madison Square Garden.  The post reads:

’Please stand for the Star Spangled Banner.’

Son: ‘Mom, I want to sit down in protest. Can we do that?’

Me: ‘Yes, honey. We can do that.’

“Who’s crying?” she wrote. “I’m not crying. #BLM (Black Lives Matter)”

What a proud moment, eh?  As we’ve demonstrated here again and again, leftists are children, mentally speaking, so no one should be surprised that a child such as Messing wouldn’t comprehend the importance of patriotism to this nation, or that she is too selfish to forego a brief moment of adulation from her equally ignorant followers on Instagram to instill in her son a love of country that is in the long term best interests of both he and his fellow citizens.  Therefore, in the spirit of one of the Left’s favorite themes – “It takes a village to raise a child” – I would like to step in and assist Messing’s neglected son (Roman) by educating him on the facts of life with respect to patriotism:

Dear Roman,

First, please accept my condolences on your misfortune of having such a self-absorbed, mindless idiot for a mother, and always remember that there is no law which says you have to become a mindless idiot too.  Now let’s talk about patriotism.

Did you know that the word “patriot” is defined by Webster’s dictionary as, “One who loves his country and zealously supports its authority and interests?”  I’m guessing you didn’t.  Our schools don’t teach patriotism any more, and if your mother bothered to tell you anything about patriotism, she probably lied (sorry, that’s what leftists do) and told you it means something like, “Having the courage to be critical of your country.”  This is a definition made up by leftists like your mom so that they can still claim to be patriots even when they are disrespecting everything this nation stands for.   So now that you finally know the truth about how patriotism is defined, let’s talk about why it’s important.

The country you know as “America” – the country where you safely live, play, eat, attend baseball games and will someday work and raise a family of your own (and where your mother is free to act like an idiot)  – was founded on the concept of freedom, autonomy and democracy, and the strong defense of these values.  We are defined by a Constitution, from which we cannot separate ourselves without becoming something else.   This is what is meant by “country” in Webster’s definition of patriotism.  This is what our flag stands for.   A country without patriotism soon ceases to be a country, which may be the reason why the Left’s elites are always trying to undermine America’s patriotism.  I’m just sayin’….

Here’s a question for you, Roman:  Did you get angry when I called your mother a mindless idiot?  Did you instinctively want to defend her against my attack?

Hopefully you did, because that would mean you feel a natural sense of loyalty to your mother, a person who takes care of you.  Unless something has gone terribly wrong, family members are instinctively driven to protect each other, because this is what keeps the family intact so that you and your mom can help each other in life, she helping you while you’re young and you helping her as she grows old.  Keeping a country intact requires that same type of loyalty, except we call it “patriotism.”  Even though Americans across the nation are mostly strangers, we are tied together by our bond as Americans, and we must nurture and protect the common interests we share as Americans, otherwise everyone will suffer, including future generations like yours that we all have a duty to protect.  If and when other countries wage war or act with hostility against us, they don’t single out individuals.  They target us as one nation, which means we must stand united together as one nation and defend each other.  This is what patriotism is about, and as you can see that’s not a bad thing.

The second thing you need to understand is that the athletes and other Americans who show disrespect to the American flag and our national anthem to protest what they claim is systematic racism are……um, how shall I put this…..full of crap.  Google crime statistics in America, especially in the big cities where we see the most accusations of police brutality, and you’ll see that blacks get the lion’s share of attention from the police because they commit the lion’s share of the crime.  This is what people in the real world use to call “common sense” long before you were born.  It’s true that there are sometimes police who make mistakes or who do bad things.  But at the age of 13 you should have learned by now that we don’t condemn an entire group for the actions of a few, which is why it’s wrong to vilify all police or disrespect a flag that stands for everyone, including you, over isolated incidents of racism.  Groups like Black Lives Matter have no interest in the truth, and therefore can do – and will do – no good for anyone.  All they can do is damage the patriotism that is necessary to unite us as a country.  People like your mother are, sadly, their useful tools.

Now please don’t be a brat.
